Raising Awareness of Trauma and Resilience with Zanmi Lasante

TWOMA.mar8.jpg

MCC partner Zanmi Lasante is raising awareness of mental health in Haiti. As part of this work, Zanmi Lasante and MCC have created a pair of social media graphics, designed to educate Haitians about trauma— its causes, and its aftereffects— and resilience— simple strategies everyone can use to build up their own ability to respond to traumatic events.

Translation

Many things, such as…

  • A car or motorcycle accident

  • sexual violence

  • child abuse

  • natural disasters

  • crime

  • witnessing any of the above

… can upset you, cause you distress, put you in a state of shock, make you suffer. #LetsActTogether

REZILYANS.mar8.jpg

Zanmi Lasante and MCC worked together to come up with a list of resilience strategies relevant to the Haitian context, with the goal of encouraging personal reflection on resilience. What are your personal strategies for self-care in difficult situations?

Translation

What can you do when you’re in a state of shock?

I can…

  • spend time with people who care about me

  • take care of my body

  • pray

  • participate in creative or artistic activities

  • play or watch sports

  • get a good night’s sleep

And you: what’s in your toolbox? #LetsActTogether
